A Q&A with Sara Bastani of Bastani Law Firm - Our February Creating Connections Hostess

Sara Bastani, Bastani Law Firm

Tell us a little bit about your business.

Bastani Law Firm specializes in accessible and customized estate planning. Through personal attention and education, she counsels clients of all ages to create a comprehensive estate plan that reflects their goals and intentions.

How did you get into the business?

My husband and I moved to Colorado less than a month after I graduated from Chicago Kent College of Law to settle in with our soon-to-be family.  I found work with the Colorado Department of Human Services and dedicated my time to public service for 6 years.  While I loved my time at the State, I struggled to find a life-work balance and ultimately decided to take some time to be with my children and reevaluate my career.

As my kids and I explored Colorado together, I met so many people, just like my husband and I, who had young families but had put off creating an estate plan. We were all so busy traveling, learning to ride bikes, and heading to the mountains for a weekend of hiking, camping and skiing! When did we have time? That is when it became clear to me that this was my new path. Not only do I want to protect my own family, but I want to help educate other families about how important this planning is!

Do you have an ideal client?

Anyone over the age of 18 should have an estate plan. Once you are 18, you must identify who can make financial and medical decisions for you. Parents can no longer make such decisions for their 18 year old.

What do you enjoy doing for fun?

I love going to see live music and taking advantage of the Colorado outdoors - skiing, hiking, fishing, camping. I spend lots of time traveling with my two kids, husband and dog and when I need a break, I love to curl up with a good book.

If you could have one superpower what would it be?

Teletransportation - I hate traffic!
